Breaking: Raiders Are Beating Commanders To Land $43.9 Million Elite QB
The Washington Commanders hold the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, a pick that could change the future of the franchise. While expected No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams is believed to be a potential generational talent, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels have the talent to be elite NFL quarterbacks. Unless something changes, the Commanders are expected to use that pick for one of those. If they trade it, one team to look out for is the Las Vegas Raiders.
Christian Wilkins was signed by Las Vegas in free agency, showing their supporters that they have no intention of quitting the competition. Arguably the best free agent available, Wilkins signed a $110 million contract with them. According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, the Raiders also signed Gardner Minshew, who claimed that he was not promised a starting position at the time of his signing.According to a recent story by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Raiders have discussed getting into the top three and earning the Commanders’ pick.
“Yes, John, there have been preliminary discussions about the Las Vegas Raiders entering the top three.
“Will they succeed? It seems unlikely that the first three picks will be traded, and if that is the case, it will depend on how the team feels about McCarthy (and possibly a few others). From there, it will depend on whether the situation worsens to the point where the former Michigan quarterback is not selected at No. 13 (which is definitely conceivable). There is still much work ahead of us.
Breer states that although he doesn’t think the Commanders will exchange the selection, anything may happen in the days leading up to the draft.
Why the Commanders Shouldn’t Trade the Pick
Getting a haul full of draft selections is always thrilling. The Washington Commanders must take a chance on their rookie quarterback, even if there’s never a guarantee they’ll be a star.
Their decision to trade Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks on March 14 effectively announced that they will select a quarterback in the first round. Washington will be getting a new quarterback unless they intend to start Marcus Mariota, who they signed in free agency this offseason.
They must choose this option for a straightforward reason. One thing has remained constant after years of disappointment: the lack of a reliable starting NFL quarterback. While those aren’t the most common, winning teams usually have an above-average to excellent starting quarterback, as seen by several previous Super Bowl champions.
Washington can try to discover that.
The risk is definitely worth taking, even if Maye or Daniels don’t work out. There’s a fair chance the Commanders will select a franchise quarterback in this draft, which is much needed.
Commanders Have Had Trade Inquiries for No. 2 Pick
Teams interested in trading up have enquired about the Washington Commanders, as any team would do with a top-three choice, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. But according to Fowler, he would be shocked if the Commanders really moved the pick.
Teams interested in trading for Washington’s No. 2 pick have enquired. There is a desire to advance, even though these offers might not be tough or practical. Teams that might be on the quarterback’s radar include the Raiders (No. 13), Vikings (No. 11), Giants (No. 6), and Falcons (No. 8). Nevertheless, I would be shocked if Washington changed its mind about the pick.
