Report: Saints sign another top star from Chiefs

Former Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay inks one-year, $5 million contract with the Saints

Kansas City, Missouri. On Tuesday, reports arose that Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay had signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints worth $5 million.

The NFL Network’s Mike Garagolo was the first to break the free agency news, and Gay expressed his delight by writing, “LETS DO IT #WHODAT,” on X. Gay tweeted a goodbye to Kansas City after the Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins in the playoffs.

L’Jarius Sneed wants to stay with the Chiefs: ‘Hopefully, I am still here.’

Drue Tranquill has been re-signed, LB Nick Bolton is under contract, and third-year LB Leo Chenal provides depth. Gay was speedier on the field than his teammates, yet he had less tackles in 2023 than all three.

Gay was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Mississippi State. In the previous two regular seasons, the 26-year-old started 28 of 29 games and totaled 146 tackles, earning two Super Bowl rings in the process.

Along with his skills on the field, Gay will be remembered in Kansas City for inspiring the Chiefs’ 2023 unofficial anthem “Swag Surfin” and energizing supporters during the most recent title parade.
