Report: Giants’ Farhan Zaidi Negotiating Three Deals With Scott Boras

At a news conference on Wednesday, Farhan Zaidi, president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants, introduced two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, who signed with the team on Tuesday.

With Snell joining the team this offseason, Zaidi began the press conference by making light of the challenges of dealing with baseball’s most famous agent. Snell is the third client of Scott Boras to join the franchise.

Actually, I just finished speaking with the White House on the phone. I wanted to know whether you could get a presidential medal of freedom for working with Scott Boras on three different transactions in one offseason. Zaidi joked, “They said they would get back to me.”

A two-year, $62 million contract with an opt-out clause after the first season secured Snell’s departure to San Francisco. Snell is represented by Boras; this offseason, the Giants recruited two more Boras clients: KBO sensation Jung Hoo Lee (six years, $113 million deal) and standout infielder Matt Chapman (three years, $54 million).

Despite San Francisco signing three players represented by Boras, the team still had a difficult time navigating his negotiation style, as he is known for being one of the best in the business.

Zaidi remarked that the achievement of giving Boras’ clients more than $225 million this offseason was worthy of more serious acknowledgment.
