The Kings should pursue early trade targets this summer. Jerami Grant
Jerami Grant has been on the Kings’ radar for a time. He was said to be one of Sacramento’s top targets in a trade deadline deal. Grant is an effective three-point shooter, a solid defender, and a great offensive weapon. Several Western Conference contenders hoped to sign him before the deadline, but the Trail Blazers were unwilling to part ways.
That may change during the summer, since Grant does not suit Portland’s rebuilding plan and might provide them with several assets. He is on a massive deal and may not be as strong of a match defensively as the other two possibilities on this list, but Grant
There is no guarantee that Malik Monk will stay in Sacramento once he enters free agency—other clubs might give him more money and a starting spot—and Keegan Murray is still young. He has star potential, but it may be too early to expect him to score big in every game.
The Kings may not have a third high-level scorer next season, joining De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Adding Grant to the mix would drastically shift the storyline and provide the squad with another weapon.
The Kings’ offense is what put them on the map in the first place, so they may as well embrace it and trust on the defense provided by De’Aaron Fox, Keegan Murray, Keon Ellis, and Davion Mitchell. Grant is not a horrible defender, but he is not the type of guy who can transform a team’s identity on that end of the court.
There aren’t many ideal trade targets out there for the Kings, but the front office should keep an eye on what’s going on in Portland.
