report: Khalen Saunders signs with the New Orleans Saints
The Chiefs selected Saunders in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
After a quiet few days in terms of unrestricted free agents, the Kansas City Chiefs lost a promising defensive lineman on Wednesday.
Khalen Saunders, a former Chiefs defensive lineman, is set to join the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Saunders, 26, was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. Due to injuries and other factors, Saunders had a sluggish start to his career until enjoying a breakout season for Kansas City in 2022.
Saunders played in 16 games for the Chiefs last season, totaling 48 tackles (22 solo) and 3.5 sacks. Saunders also had a sack in the team’s 38-35 Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
In the run-up to the Super Bowl, Saunders expressed his admiration for Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City. However, as the cliché goes, the NFL is a business, and its clubs, particularly those that win, cannot keep everyone.
