Chiefs wide receiver sends a two-word message to recruit former Ravens $4 million running back.
The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the free agent market after cornerback L’Jarius Sneed’s trade to the Tennessee Titans was completed. With an additional $19.8 million in cash, the Chiefs have multiple roster gaps to address, including running back
On Tuesday, April 2, ESPN’s Adam Schefter claimed that former Baltimore Ravens standout J.K. Dobbins was “currently in Kansas City on a visit with the Chiefs, per his agency LAA Sports & Entertainment.” The former Ravens running back ‘is likely to have a home very soon.'”
Spotrac.com predicts Dobbins, the Ravens’ second-round choice in the 2020 NFL draft, will sign a two-year, $4.3 million contract.
Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who signed a one-year $7 million contract with the Chiefs last month, is one of those hoping Dobbins would find a new “home” with them. To entice the 25-year-old, Brown employed the same recruitment strategy that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid did on him.
Brown revealed the text texts he got from Reid before agreeing to terms with the Chiefs. “Hollywood, think Red today, KC Red with diamonds!!!” Reid sent a message with the wink-face emoji. After Kansas City won back-to-back Super Bowls, the message was effective.
Brown said, “Yessir, I like the sound of that. Think Hollywood Brown. “Lights, Camera, Action,” with two rocketship emojis.
Reid took a similar approach while recruiting linebacker Drue Tranquill last year. “Andy Reid contacted me the morning of [when] I was about to make my selection, saying, ‘Think red. Think red. “Think Super Bowls,” Tranquill told NFL Access.
“I just felt really valued over there, felt like they really had a role for me and really wanted me over there.”
