Itoro Coleman, the assistant coach for the UNC women’s basketball team, has taken a new coaching position inside the Atlantic Coast Conference after four seasons with the club.
Coleman is the second person Megan Duffy has hired at Virginia Tech, and she is bringing her skills to Blacksburg. Coleman will take over as the program’s associate head coach beginning this season.
Coleman will be in charge of guard and post player development, game preparation, scouting, recruiting, and different external operations initiatives, according to the school’s official press statement.
Coleman led the Tar Heels to four NCAA bids over her four seasons at Chapel Hill, including a 2021–2022 Sweet Sixteen run. In ACC play, North Carolina had a 35-19 (.648) record and a 67-31 (.683) record with Coleman off the field. Because she has assisted the Tar Heels in acquiring several really excellent athletes throughout her career, Coleman is also seen as a top recruiter.
Coleman played a season at Marquette before coming to North Carolina, where she had her first coaching experience under Duffy. The bond they formed at Marquette led to their reunion at Virginia Tech, where they will work to build on the recent success the program has seen.
