Report: Saints sign talented Star to Replace Derek Carr

Saints add new QB behind Derek Carr.
The New Orleans Saints surely do not lack quarterback depth right now.

On Friday, New Orleans announced that it had reached an agreement with veteran quarterback Kellen Mond. Mond, 24, has officially joined the fourth team in his NFL career.

Mond, a former Texas A&M standout, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round (66th overall) in 2021, however he only appeared in one game before being dismissed in 2022. He subsequently spent the next season with the Cleveland Browns and a portion of last season on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad.

The Saints’ quarterback room is already somewhat full. With Derek Carr starting, Mond will have to battle with Jake Haener and fellow newbie Nathan Peterman for the backup quarterback position. Taysom Hill is still around, but he is clearly less of a genuine quarterback and more of a gadget guy who can play as a tight end or running back instead.

It seems doubtful that all of those players will make the final roster cuts. However, Mond, who still has some doubters to prove incorrect, will have the opportunity to stand out in New Orleans.
