The New Orleans Saints have signed defensive back Shemar Jean-Charles to a one-year contract, the team announced Monday. Loomis is the executive vice president and general manager of the team.
After being chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round (178th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Appalachian State, Jean-Charles (pronounced John Charles), 5-10, 184, has appeared in 28 regular season games for the Packers (2021–22), San Francisco 49ers (2023), and Saints (2023), recording three solo tackles and twelve special teams stops.
The native of Miramar, Florida, saw action in five 49ers games and three Saints games in 2023. He was given credit for one solo tackle and three stops on special teams for San Francisco.
At Appalachian State, Jean-Charles appeared in 50 games, 25 of which he started. He finished with 97 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. In 2020, he started 12 games as a senior and finished with 37 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception. Pro Football Focus named him to the first team of the Sun Belt and named him Sun Belt Player of the Year.
