Texas Longhorns lose highly-rated cornerback in massive transfer portal blow.
Coach Steve Sarkisian has a lot of work to do to fill the deficiencies in the Texas football program’s defensive personnel. They lost Ryan Watts in the 2024 NFL Draft, and it appears they also lost Terrance Brooks. The NCAA Transfer Portal has once again cost the Longhorns a methodical defensive threat.
You heard that correctly! Terrance Brooks has officially registered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Texas football cornerback was grateful for the Longhorns fans’ support and the opportunity to play for Coach Steve Sarkisian. He then sent his final message to the program.
“I’d like to thank God, my family, and the Longhorn Nation for everything. Terrance Brooks wrote, “At this time, I will enter the transfer portal.”
He had a terrific experience with the Texas football team. Brooks was frequently called upon to defend passes, and the Longhorns always came out on top. His powerful hands and pesky personality enabled him to lead the squad in interceptions. His three picks went nicely with his six passes defended and 20 tackles made.
In addition to his interceptions, he knew how to run the route to help his team gain yardage. To put things in perspective, his interceptions resulted in a total of 42 yards. That is an average gain of 14 yards per pick, which few cornerbacks in college football can match.
All of these figures did not go unrewarded. He made an honorable mention on the All-Big 12 team and may have received further accolades. Brooks is now looking for a new home that will allow him to compete for titles in states such as Texas. Where do you believe he goes in the transfer portal?
Coach Steve Sarkisian will have to deal with a fresh rotation this fall as a result of the numerous changes in his program. He just lost key offensive players Ky Woods, Payton Kirkland, Derrian Brown, Isaiah Neyor, Maalik Murphy, and Silas Bolden to the transfer portal. His defensive unit suffered a significant setback this offseason. Sarkisian lost several players, including Zac Swanson, Billy Walton, S’Maje Burrell, J’mond Trapp, Kitan Crawford, Jerrin Thompson, and Trill Carter.
Despite these losses, the elite program appears to have attracted some new participants. On the offensive side of the game, they signed Amari Niblack, Isaiah Bond, and Kendrick Blackshire, all of whom are mentees of Nick Saban in the Alabama Crimson Tide program. They also received lethal pickups in Matthew Golden.
Texas’ defensive revamp was as absurd. They scored Bill Norton and Tiaoalii Savea, both from Arizona. Andrew Mukuba and Trey Moore complete the list of transfers.
The Longhorns have a lot of potential to go well next season. Hopefully, they can execute the correct plans to unlock each and every member of their team. If everything goes well, a natty could be headed to Texas.
