Rytis Petraitis, the Texas Longhorns’ Air Force transfer target, has announced his decision.
The Texas Longhorns were after Air Force transfer Rytis Petraitis.
Austin — The Texas Longhorns began their portal spree with a guard-heavy lineup, but they still need to recruit more frontcourt players. They’ll have to keep up with Sunday’s latest news.
According to an announcement on his X (Twitter) account, Air Force transfer Rytis Petraitis has committed to Cal, preferring the Golden Bears over Texas. The Arlington, Texas native visited the Forty Acres earlier this month, but has decided to take his talents west instead of returning to his home state.
This season, Petraitis led Air Force in points (15.7), rebounds (6.3), assists (3.7), blocks (0.9), and steals (1.6). He was a versatile player for the Falcons, and the Longhorns were well aware of this.
Air Force finished last in the Mountain West regular-season standings, but it did have some significant wins, including a surprise 90-58 road victory against UNLV on Jan. 23. Petraitis recorded the second-ever triple-double in Air Force history, scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. He added three blocks and two steals in what was a dominant performance by the Falcons.
The Longhorns and coach Rodney Terry would have wanted to have Petraitis join the team, but he may have a bigger role at Cal.
Last season, the Golden Bears had a few Austin/Longhorn links. Devin Askew and Jaylon Tyson, former Longhorns, played for Cal in 2023, as did Austin resident Keonte Kennedy.
