Texans Draft Ohio State TE Cade Stover Following Trade with Eagles
The Houston Texans reunited C.J. Stroud with his former Ohio State teammate by selecting tight end Cade Stover with the 123rd choice in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Houston — The Houston Texans began Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft by adding a new weapon for quarterback C.J. Stroud. On Saturday morning, the Houston Texans traded up with the Philadelphia Eagles to select Ohio State tight end Cade Stover. The Texans traded the No. 127th pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Eagles.

Stover will be able to reunite with his college quarterback after joining the Texans. Stover and Stroud guided the Buckeyes to an 11-2 record in the 2022 collegiate season. Stover burst onto the forefront while playing alongside Stroud, totaling 406 yards on 36 catches and five touchdowns, a then-career high.
Stover had 76 yards and five catches in 2021, the season before Stroud became Ohio State’s starting quarterback.

“It is such an honor to play with C.J. again,” Stover stated. “They [Texans] have something distinctive. I am so excited. I am just ready to help in any way I can.”

“I’ve been tugged in so many different directions; nothing has gone perfectly in my life. I feel battle-hardened. “I am prepared to go.”

Stover played five seasons at Ohio State and established himself as a top draft prospect. After his freshman year as a linebacker, he moved to tight end. Stover played basketball in high school and scored 1,715 points, breaking the scoring record at Lexington High.
