Breaking: Ravens Closing In On Deal To Sign $19.5 Million All-Pro with 24 Interceptions
The Baltimore Ravens’ defense has the potential to be a work in progress by 2024.
After losing many important contributors, including solid safety Geno Stone, the Ravens may need to go to free agency to acquire a reliable experienced presence in the secondary if they want to make another deep run at the Super Bowl.
If the 2024 season began today, Marcus Williams would start alongside Kyle Hamilton, a rising star in his own right.
However, for a team that considers itself a serious Super Bowl contender, strengthening at safety may be the final box to check before the season begins in September.
Micah Hyde an Ideal Fit for Baltimore Ravens
Micah Hyde, a former Buffalo Bills safety, might be an intriguing fit for the Ravens to improve the safety room.
CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr compiled a list of the top matches for remaining free agents and believes the Ravens should sign Hyde to strengthen the secondary.
“The Ravens didn’t take a safety until pick No. 250 in this year’s draft,” he writes. “With Geno Stone’s departure, the position could benefit from more depth. They have Marcus Williams and Kyle Hamilton back there, but Baltimore has previously used three safety sets.
In the event that Williams or Hamilton are injured, this is more of a luxury for Baltimore. Despite his deteriorating covering abilities, Hyde is an inherently strong defensive end player and leader. He would make a useful addition.
Hyde, who was selected twice for the Second Team All-Pro, has amassed 644 total tackles with 24 career interceptions in his first 11 seasons. He recently finished up a successful 2023 season with 54 tackles and two interceptions.
A defense that might be going through a bit of a transitional period in the upcoming season may find Hyde’s experience and versatility in the secondary to be a welcome addition.
