The Chiefs have signed Carson Wentz, a former Rams quarterback, as a backup. Carson Wentz will be supporting Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner, after previously backing up one. According to sources, the Kansas City Chiefs will sign Carson Wentz to a one-year contract.
Wentz most recently served as the Los Angeles Rams’ No. 2 quarterback behind Matthew Stafford, where he remained for the second half of the 2023 season after being signed mid-year.
Wentz, the former No. 2 overall choice in the 2016 NFL draft, last started in 2022 for the Washington Commanders. He started seven games that season but was 2-5, throwing 11 touchdown passes and nine interceptions.
He sat out the first half of the 2023 season while looking for a team to sign him, eventually joining the Rams in early November. In his one start with the Rams, he completed 17 of 24 passes for 163 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also carried for 56 yards and a touchdown in the season-ending win over the 49ers.
The Rams declined to re-sign Wentz, instead bringing in Jimmy Garoppolo to back up Stafford.

Chris Jones has signed a new five-year contract that will almost certainly keep him with the Chiefs, and his relationship with head coach Andy Reid has improved.
Following the Chiefs’ third Super Bowl in five seasons, Jones and his head coach hugged on the field, and both men are now committed to the franchise as they seek a historic third Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Jones is said to have agreed to a new five-year contract with more than £90 million in guaranteed money, and the 2016 NFL Draft second-round pick appears to be set to stay with the Chiefs indefinitely.
Reid is also said to be in talks with general manager Brett Veach about a new long-term contract as the organization looks to solidify the foundation of its winning streak.
However, not everything has been easy. Jones refused to sign a deal last summer, resulting in a holdout that caused him to miss the first few weeks of the season, much to Reid’s disappointment at the time.
“There has been no communication, so I’m not sure what’s going to happen. Whatever happens, happens, and if he is not present, the game continues.
“They were free to interact and do their own thing. There’s simply been no contact.
Jones and the Chiefs eventually agreed to a one-year contract, and the 2023 season went extremely well, with Jones helping the team win the Super Bowl over the San Francisco 49ers.
After the Super Bowl, Jones and Reid had their moment as the confetti fell, and sources suggested that it was only a matter of time until Jones signed a long-term contract to stay with the team that selected him. On Saturday, it looks that negotiations have overcome the final hurdles.Jones is among the most decorated active defensive players in the league. The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder has been on five Pro Bowl squads and won three Super Bowls.
Jones earned 10.5 sacks in 2023, his third career double-digit total. He also tied.
Even though Jones and Reid were at odds before last season, other members of the organization made it plain that they wanted the former Mississippi State college football standout to stay for many more years.
“I know how much Chris loves the Chiefs,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes remarked during the fallout in August. “He enjoys being a member of this group. So I simply try to remain out of it and remind Chris that I love him and that whenever he returns, he would be greeted with open arms.
Jones can now enjoy a more relaxed offseason than 2023, with mandatory camp still many months away and his future secured.
