Former Orioles reliever trades with the Mets to join the Dodgers
In 2024, Yohan Ramirez moves on to a third franchise, joining the Los Angeles Dodgers, following five seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets.
Through a trade, he travels to the West in return for financial considerations. The Dodgers used Twitter to announce the change.
On April 11, Ramirez arrived in Baltimore in a similar manner after being traded for cash considerations.
He pitched in five games with a 6.00 ERA, striking out six batters in six innings.
In the end, Ramirez was designated for assignment in the trade that sent 2023 ace Kyle Bradish back to the Baltimore Orioles.
On May 6, he returned to the Mets via waiver claim; however, he only made two appearances before Los Angeles claimed him.
Ramirez is currently on his sixth team since making his debut in 2020—the Dodgers—as he continues his quest. This also applies to Baltimore’s pitching staff’s composition.
Rodriguez Comes Back and DFAed Baumann
The Orioles’ 40-man roster needed to make room for another starter, which meant someone had to go.
The organization had to designate reliever Mike Baumann, who did not have any options on his contract, in order to bring back Grayson Rodriguez.
This season, he made 17 appearances with the Orioles and tossed 18.1 innings with 16 strikeouts, good for a 3.44 ERA.
After the trade, manager Brandon Hyde met with reporters to discuss Baumann and the decision to designate him.
On May 18, Baltimore’s captain said, “It’s been a really tough morning.” “Mike has been here for a long time. Consider how excellent he was, how many games he helped us win, and the first half he had for us the previous season. Last night, he had a great ball throw. In addition to all of those accolades, he was an amazing person, a fantastic teammate, a first-rate professional in every aspect, and a huge favorite among the guys in our clubhouse. It has been an overcast morning.
It doesn’t help that Baumann, 28, had just begun to stabilize after an inconsistent season in which he recorded a 1.17 ERA in May.
However, Rodriguez’s performance on his comeback to the mound gives hope as the
Against the Seattle Mariners, the 24-year-old ace pitched six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and a 3.15 ERA.
It was insufficient. Between the seventh and eighth innings, Rodriguez’s four replacement pitchers allowed four runs to be scored.
In a third game on May 19, Baltimore won the series after losing 4–3. Bradish’s return to the mound was equally exciting.
Rebounding and Handling the Orioles
The risk or benefit of naming Ramirez was never in doubt. The 2023 Orioles squad that won the American League East was led by Bradish.
And during his first three starts with the team in 2024, he continues to look the part.
Bradish pitched 4.2 innings in his season debut against the New York Yankees before being relieved with two on and two outs in the fifth.
Of his eighty-four pitches, 51 were ruled strikes, and he gave up four hits.
Bradish has struck out 12 batters in 9 innings in his last two games, both of which Baltimore has won.
With Bradish on the mound, the Orioles have a 3-0 record, but the former ace is still yet to record a solo victory.
It’s only a matter of when, not if, the pitching staff finds some consistency and he keeps working his way back into the lineup.
With 44 games played in 2024, Baltimore’s pitching staff has a 3.25 ERA overall, which ranks seventh in Major League Baseball. It ought to just keep becoming popular.
