Louisville EDGE Tyler Baron commits to Miami.
Miami now has one of the best defensive rooms in the country, including exceptional players. Miami has welcomed EDGE Tyler Baron to its roster for 2024, adding to an already impressive spring transfer portal.
On Tuesday evening, Miami received a pledge from EDGE Tyler Baron. The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder is ranked No. 72 overall and No. 10 EDGE rusher in the 247Sports Transfer Portal. During the tight struggle for Baron’s services, he also considered USC, Ole Miss, and LSU.
After four years at Tennessee, Baron transferred to Louisville during the winter transfer portal window after looking into chances at Ole Miss, Alabama, and Texas. After missing spring football with the Cardinals due to a shoulder injury, Baron re-entered the transfer portal and is now on his way to South Florida to finish his college career, just a few weeks after an official visit to Miami.
In 2023, Baron had his most productive college season, recording 28 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks. Pro Football Focus credited Baron with 41 quarterback pressures. Last fall, the 41 pressures were fifth among all SEC pass rushers. To put that figure into context, Rueben Bain was credited with 45 QB pressures during his standout 2023 true rookie season.
Over the course of his career, Baron has 105 quarterback pressures.
Throughout his college career, Baron has also improved his run defense. Baron’s run defensive efforts were evaluated by Pro Football Focus at 72.0 in 2023 and 77.3 in 2022. In 2023, PFF credited him with only two missed tackles, indicating an improvement in his tackling consistency.
Jason Taylor and Miami now have one of the strongest defensive end rooms in the country, with Baron, Bain, Akheem Mesidor, and Marshall transfer Elijah Alston slated to form the top four at the position. The club has totaled 316 career quarterback pressures.
Baron also adds another top-tier defensive lineman to the roster, following the addition of Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr. earlier this month.
The arrival of Baron marks the program’s 15th transfer commitment across both cycles, propelling the Hurricanes into the top ten of the 247Sports Transfer Rankings. He is the fourth Top 100 transfer talent to join the program this offseason, following quarterback Cam Ward, Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, and Houston wide receiver Sam Brown.
