TX Defensive Tackle Byron Murphy: ‘Most Popular’ Los Angeles Rams NFL Mock Draft Pick
Texas Longhorns’ defensive tackle Byron Murphy appears to be the favorite for the Rams’ first pick in the NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams will do their best to find a man to replace the vacuum left by the retirement of superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
One guy who could be that player is Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Byron Murphy, who has been scouted as having some similarities to Donald.
Will he be Aaron Donald? Most likely no. That would be a difficult task for any player in any draft to fulfill.
Nonetheless, Murphy has emerged as a trendy option for the Rams at No. 19 in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has been so popular that fans have selected him more than any other player in PFF mock drafts.
Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat became the country’s most dominant defensive tackle duo and one of the nation’s top running defenses for the Longhorns.
Murphy has 29 stops, 8.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and scored two offensive touchdowns this season, one of which came in the College Football Playoff semi-finals against Washington in the Sugar Bowl. Mel Kiper Jr., an ESPN NFL Draft expert, projects him as a probable first-round choice and the No. 1 overall defensive lineman.
Of course, the essence of the matter is that Murphy might leave well before the Rams choose at No. 19. However, if he does end up in Los Angeles, he would be an ideal fit for their defensive style.
Not to add, considering the Rams’ tendency to be aggressive throughout the draft, a move up for Murphy is not out of the question.
