Draymond Green advises Indiana Fever on dealing with the WNBA’s contempt for Caitlin Clark.
The WNBA may be dealing with an increasingly serious issue. During Saturday’s Indiana Fever victory over the Chicago Sky, opponent Chennedy Carter made a cheap shot on Caitlin Clark, which the former Iowa standout called as a “non-basketball play.”
The WNBA eventually upgraded Carter’s common foul to a flagrant-1, but it is unlikely to stop further apparent player targeting of the league’s most controversial new star.
Draymond Green: The Indiana Fever need an enforcer to support Caitlin Clark.
Fortunately, NBA great Draymond Green has some suggestions on how the Fever should handle Clark’s disrespect by her adversaries, and his suggestion shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
Green, to the surprise of no one, believes the Fever should recruit a “enforcer” type athlete who will not back down from any physical challenge on the court. That has effectively been Green’s position with the Golden State Warriors over his 12-year NBA career, during which he has won four titles and been chosen to the All-Defensive Team eight times.
On the surface, Green’s notion is absurd, but if Clark continues to be the victim of harsh fouls and brick walls on screens, perhaps the Fever should reserve a roster space for an intimidating player who will always have her teammate’s back.
