Following their elimination from the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Rangers now have the 30th overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft. This winter, the Blueshirts hope to add another fascinating talent to their prospect pool, and they may be able to get a power forward with unique characteristics in Round 1.
The Rangers could seek power forward Dean Letourneau with their first-round draft pick.
Rangers fans should not expect their team to land an immediate superstar with their late first-round draft pick. However, they might choose a high-potential prospect with the potential to become an influential NHL player.
Dean Letourneau is an intriguing talent who could be targeted with selection No. 30. The 18-year-old Canadian recently joined Boston College’s 2024 recruiting class, which accelerated his growth. He was supposed to join BC for the 2025–26 season.
Letourneau’s combination of stature and speed gives him a unique skill set. He is 6-foot-7 and weighs 210 pounds, yet he has impressive skating and shooting abilities for his bulk. Letourneau’s Elite Prospects scouting report characterizes him as a phenomenal athlete on the ice.
“Letourneau is huge, yet unlike other athletes his size, he doesn’t feel stuck in his own physique. He moves pretty fluidly, thanks to his use of crossover techniques to minimize long, slow steps, and he has good upper-body/lower-body separation as well as agility. A large portion of his offense consists of downhill attacks in which he analyzes pressure, drives the net with his range and size, or uses the attention he receives to locate an open teammate.”
Letourneau is a power forward who mostly anchored the line for St. Andrews College last season. He had 127 points in 56 games played last season, including 61 goals and 66 assists. This strong campaign persuaded Boston College to include Letourneau in their 2024 recruiting class, giving him
