Breaking: Airdrie signs 23-year-old midfielder as Telfer leaves club

The Diamonds have announced their latest signing.

Airdrie have signed Lewis McGrattan, a former Rangers and Greenock Morton attacker.

The 23-year-old offensive midfielder formerly played for Airdrie’s Championship rivals Morton, joining Cappielow in 2017 from Rangers, where he spent his formative days.

Cammy Ballantyne, a defender, traveled in the opposite direction yesterday.

McGrattan told the club website: “My time at Morton came to an end, and I first heard about Airdrie’s first interest – and to be honest, it was something I wanted to pursue! I am pleased to be here.

“Personally, I just want to play as many games as I can and enjoy my football again. I feel like when I do enjoy my football I can be a real asset to the team.

“I like getting on the ball and trying to make things happen, and Airdrie is a team that likes to pass the ball, which suits me. We finished in the play-offs last year and hope to develop on it this year.”

Manager Rhys McCabe added: “Lewis is a very skilled player; I’ve played against him a few times and always believed he’d thrive in our system and style.

“He can play both wide and centrally, has good ball control with both feet, and provides us with true talent. He’s someone who will add value to our team, has good experience for his age, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.”

Meanwhile, the Diamonds have parted company with midfielder Charkie Telfer.

A club statement read: “Following discussions with the club, midfielder Charlie Telfer has declined a contract offer and will move on. We thank Charlie for his efforts during his time with Airdrie and wish him all the best for the future.”
