Breaking: Ayr United set to beat Championship rivals to sign 30 year-old defender
The experienced centre-back was loaned out to Raith Rovers last season.
According to Courier Sport, Livingston and Ayr United are both interested in signing Dundee defender Lee Ashcroft.
The seasoned centre-back has a year left on his contract at Dens Park, but Dark Blues manager Tony Docherty allowed him depart on loan for Raith Rovers in February.
Ashcroft, like Cammy Kerr and Max Anderson, may be open for a move this summer.
And if that’s the case, Championship rivals Livi and Ayr are likely to be at the forefront of the race to sign him, either on loan or permanently.
Ashcroft’s 2023/24 season was cut short due to a hamstring injury shortly after joining Raith.
Ironically, his only 43-minute outing for Kirkcaldy came against Ayr.
Ashcroft, who will be 31 in August, played 13 games for Dundee last season and was a key player in the club’s Championship title success the previous year.
