Breaking: Airdrie beat ‘top-flight interest’ to sign 18-year-old sensational

The Diamonds have bolstered their backline with the arrival of Cammy Bruce

Airdrie have swooped to acquire Queen’s Park defender Cammy Bruce, despite competition from major clubs north and south of the border.

The 18-year-old wing-back came through the Spiders’ program, spending a decade at Hampden after being identified at local club Bargeddie Colts.

Ironically, he made his league debut against the Diamonds in March 2022 and has now relocated from Glasgow to North Lanarkshire to join Rhys McCabe’s team for next season’s Championship promotion push.

After completing his transfer, Bruce told the club website: “When I heard that Airdrie was an option, it was something I wanted to pursue. I knew how they played football last season and how Rhys expects his guys to play, so it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

“We’ll just attempt to finish as high as possible in the table, push for promotion or play-offs, win as many games as possible, and play good football again. Hopefully, I’ll contribute with some assists and maybe a goal or two.”

Rhys McCabe, the Diamonds’ player/boss, was thrilled to secure Bruce’s signature despite interest from top-level clubs both north and south of the border.

McCabe said: “Cammy’s another terrific young player – I remember him making his debut against us when he was 16 years old, and I’ve kept an eye on him from a distance.

“There is no limit to his potential in terms of quality and scope. It’s now about helping him improve and giving him more first-team experience. He’s got a lot of potential, and maybe he’ll be another player with a promising future.”
