Espn Report: Brisbane Broncos announce confirmed the departure of 5 players

Five Brisbane Broncos players are available for Super League clubs to sign.
The Super League is experiencing a surge in transfer activity, with numerous clubs moving quickly to implement their plans for 2025. As the Super League season nears its halfway point, clubs have a better notion of where they need to improve for both this season and the next.

With limited quota places for international players, teams must be savvy in their foreign acquisitions. Hull FC has filled the two vacancies left by Nu Brown and Tex Hoy with the arrival of abroad players Jed Cartwright and Treigh Stewart. Salford also want to strengthen their team by signing Aaron Pene for the duration of the 2024 season.

Wests Tigers are apparently giving some of their greatest talent to the Super League. Now, it appears that a number of Brisbane Broncos players may be available for transfer, with Super League clubs likely to be circling to improve their squads for next season.

The decision is motivated by a desire to retain superstar full-back Reece Walsh, who will now command a large contract.

This morning, news surfaced in Australia that veteran NRL forward Martin Taupau would be released by the Broncos at the end of his current contract. Taupau is now expected to be joined by four colleagues who are also leaving the club.

The Fox League says that Xavier Willison, Kotoni Staggs, Corey Jensen, and Kobe Hetherington will all leave the Broncos at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

Willison, 21, is a powerful prop forward who has played regularly for the Broncos this season. He has appeared nine times for the Broncos this season, largely off the bench, and scored his only try in their round six victory over the Dolphins.

Staggs is a centre, and his success in the 2023 season earned him a call-up to the Australian squad for the end-of-year tests. This season, he has made 11 appearances for the Broncos and scored twice.

Jensen, 30, is another prop forward with a reputation for consistency and effort. He is another regular with the Broncos, having appeared in 12 games this season. He is a competent defender who has made 327 tackles with a 97% success rate.

Hetherington won the Broncos Rookie of the Year title in 2021 and has remained an important member of the team ever since. He is mostly a loose forward and a strong ball carrier, having recorded 22 tackle breaks and 480 post-contact meters in 2023. He has made 12 appearances for the Broncos this season.

Super League clubs will certainly face heavy competition from their NRL rivals in the pursuit of these Broncos regulars.
