Breaking: Jim Goodwin delivers transfer update as Dundee United closing in on new signing

United hopes to have the majority of their roster in place by August 3.

Jim Goodwin has confirmed that Dundee United are in transfer talks with “a number of players”.
And the Tangerines manager expects to get their business “pretty much done” before the Premier League season begins.

The Terrors have already signed Dave Richards, Will Ferry, Vicko Sevelj, and Ryan Strain in preparation for their top-flight return.

Kristijan Trapanovski has committed to a two-year contract with the option for a third, and is expected to arrive in Scotland next week before being officially introduced.

However, with 15 players exiting from the Championship-winning side of last term, there is plenty of work to be done – with Goodwin determined to swiftly build a quality squad.

Goodwin: We’ve had targets for “months”

“But you can recognise with the quality we are bringing in, that we want to bring in a level of player capable of competing in the Premiership.

“By the time the first league game comes around, we’ll have our recruitment pretty much done, I would imagine. But I’m very pleased with the business we have done up until now.”

Kevin Holt to be assessed by Dundee United docs

Goodwin was speaking during United’s pre-season opener at Glebe Park, which saw the Tangerines defeat Highland League side Brechin City 2-0 thanks to goals from Kai Fotheringham and Tony Watt.

United also hit the crossbar twice, and Sevelj and Ferry both had outstanding non-competitive debuts. Dave Richards, an underworked goalie, had little opportunity to impress in his debut.

Indeed, the only disadvantage was Kevin Holt’s retirement following a brutal clash of heads that left him wounded and dazed.

“It didn’t look great at the time,” continued Goodwin. “He has been left with a cut above his eye, and he did look a little bit wobbly on his legs just after that.

“We’ll assess it, the doctor will have a look at him. I would imagine he’ll be okay for next week.”

Back in the swing of things

On the game itself, Goodwin stated, “It was a fantastic way to end the week. After six sessions, it was good to end with 45 minutes for everyone to get back into the rhythm of things.

There was some rustiness in terms of passing, speed, and intensity. We would eventually get there, but we were really professional.

“I’d have like a few more goals. There were a number of tight offside goals, and we hit the crossbar a few times, but overall, it was quite excellent.”
