Breaking: Washington Capitals reportedly ‘very busy’ as they close in on move to complete duo free agent signing
The Washington Capitals appear to be ready to go proactive this offseason.
Brian MacLellan, who acquired Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, is anticipated to be “very busy” in the future, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
On the Saturday episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman stated, “Someone told me that Washington is not done.” “I believe Washington is going to be quite busy. I’ve heard there will be more coming.”
MacLellan has expressed his desire to add to the team’s top six forwards. Free agency and deals done prior to the draft provide the finest opportunities for a move.
The Capitals have accumulated draft picks after selling at the previous two trade deadlines. The franchise retains their first-round draft pick in the next three drafts, four second-round draft picks in the next two drafts, and five third-round draft picks in the next two drafts.
CapFriendly estimates that with the acquisition of Dubois, the Capitals will have $12.935 million in cap space. Nicklas Backstrom’s $9.2 million budget hit is still on LTIR, and the organization has an additional $3.735 million in room.
Over the offseason, the only internal moves Washington needs to make are re-signing restricted free agents like Connor McMichael and Beck Malenstyn.
