“Cold Water Poured…”: Hearts Likely To Miss Out On 29-Year-Old Playmaker After Emerging Report

SPFL side Hearts are reportedly likely to miss out on the permanent signing of Charlton Athletic playmaker Scott Fraser this summer.

The 29-year-old spent the second half of the 2023/24 season with the Scottish side after trying to secure a regular first-team position under Nathan Jones, but his chances of returning to Scotland are now jeopardised.

As a result, he is set to join Charlton Athletic for pre-season training this summer as he awaits word on his future plans for 2024/25.

How did Fraser fare last season?

The midfielder began the 2023/24 season at Charlton Athletic, appearing in 22 games in all competitions in the first half of the season, scoring once and providing five assists.

However, the majority of his League One matches came from the bench, and he was then loaned out to Hearts for the remainder of the SPFL season.

Back in Scotland, Fraser made 11 more appearances for Hearts, assisting twice, as the club finished third in the 2023/24 SPFL season, 12 points ahead of Kilmarnock but 17 points behind Rangers.

What barrier is currently affecting Hearts?

According to journalist Richard Cawley, the midfielder is likely to return for pre-season training with the League One club this summer.

However, the player’s present wage in League One has hindered any prospective return to Scotland, with clubs unable to match it.

Cawley reveals that Fraser is likely to be declared surplus to requirements at Charlton Athletic, but if he wants to return to Scotland, his pay will need to be reduced so that all parties involved in a future transaction can agree on terms.

Although, he does confirm that Charlton are likely to want to sell Fraser this summer rather than send him out on loan again.
