Josh Gibfith signs an extension of the Albion contract
Josh Griffiths, the goalie for Albion, has extended his contract with the team through the summer of 2027, demonstrating his commitment to the team for the long term.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who featured in every 2023–24 cup game for the Baggies and has made 13 first-team appearances so far, played for England at the junior level.
Josh was named Albion’s Young Player of the Season for 2022–2023 and has played in over 100 league games after having productive loan stints at Cheltenham Town, Lincoln City, and Portsmouth.
The goalie from Hereford, who acknowledges that becoming Albion’s starting goalkeeper is his long-term goal, maintains that Alex Palmer was “the best goalkeeper in the league” the previous campaign.
He stated, “It was an easy decision for me to extend my time here at Albion. I’m extremely grateful to the club for providing me this opportunity and the new deal.
“I’ve lived here for a long time, and I have so many wonderful memories and friends. I’ve also developed excellent ties with the workers here.
“I truly believe the club is headed in one direction: forward. With the new owner, I believe the next several years will be really interesting.
“My long-term goal is to become Albion’s number one, but I thought Alex Palmer was outstanding last season – probably the best goalkeeper in the league.” We have a wonderful relationship, both on and off the
Head Coach Carlos Corberán stated, “I am thrilled Josh has extended his contract with us.
“He is one of the most gifted young goalkeepers in the country, and he is a great example of our academy’s good work.
“He is a special person who I believe will go on to be a special goalkeeper in the future of our club.”
