Announcement: NASCAR driver suspended indefinitely following domestic violence arrest

Gray Gaulding, a NASCAR driver, has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest by Cornelius Police Department on Tuesday morning. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina, Gaulding was detained for misdemeanor domestic violence before being released later that day.

Gaulding, 26, has made 158 career starts in NASCAR’s three national touring divisions, but he has yet to compete in 2024 and has no plans to do so. He has made 60 Cup Series appearances, including one last year at Gateway, and his best finish was ninth at Talladega in the autumn of 2017.

The majority of Gaulding’s experience and success have come at the Xfinity Series level, where he has two runner-up finishes (one at Talladega in 2019 and one at Daytona in 2020) and eight top-10 finishes overall. Gaulding’s best finish in the Xfinity Series points standings was 13th in 2019, making him the highest-ranking driver who did not qualify for the playoffs.

Gaulding is also the brother-in-law of Zane Smith, a NASCAR Cup Series driver and Rookie of the Year contender, who is married to his sister McCall.
