ESPN news: 5-star player commit to Kentucky wildcats

Four-star DL Kalen Edwards commits to Kentucky football.
UK football adds a significant component to their defensive recruiting class.

Kalen Edwards (6-foot-4, 330 pounds) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, has committed to Kentucky football, according to an Instagram post.

Edwards chose the Wildcats over Auburn, Louisville, and Memphis after his official visit to Lexington on June 21. Following that visit, the United Kingdom became his leader, although he did not announce his decision until Sunday evening.

The entire coaching staff helped recruit the Tennessee native to UK. Brad White, the co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach, reminded him of his home.

“Coach White reminds me of my defensive coordinator, which I enjoy because he reminds me of someone. He’s a defensive guy. He stated that he will participate in individual drills and will be on the line. We were in the meeting room, and he encouraged me to jump up and attack him as hard as I could because he loves the way defensive lineman strike. This is something that my coaches do at home. It’s crazy. “I adore that.”

Anwar Stewart, the defensive line coach, also left an impression on Edwards.

“I adore [my relationship with coach Stewart]. I believe he has the potential to help me develop and advance to the next level. It was all love. When I arrived, it was pure love from the moment I came through the door. He was cool. He kept everything real.”

The 247Sports Composite ranks Edwards as the nation’s 38th defensive lineman and 339th overall recruit. Last season, he made 47 tackles, including 12 for a loss, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
