Micah Matthews, a four-star athlete from Virginia, has committed to Virginia Tech for football and baseball in the Class of 2025. He was formerly a South Carolina recruit.
Recruiting has been a big success for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry in the Class of 2025, and on Wednesday night, he not only secured a prize recruit for his squad, but also baseball coach John Szefc.
Micah Matthews, a four-star athlete, de-committed from South Carolina for baseball last September and reopened his recruiting, and the Bridgewater, Va. native has committed to Virginia Tech for both football and baseball. He will join the Hokies as a wide receiver and outfielder on the baseball team.
Matthews chose Virginia Tech over North Carolina and Virginia, among others. The Turner Ashby standout lives two hours from Blacksburg, and when he decommitted from South Carolina and reopened his recruitment, he expressed a desire to play both sports at the next level.
Matthews is the 118th overall talent in the class and the Commonwealth’s fifth-ranked player in football. As a junior, he had nearly 1,500 receiving yards, with 907 coming after the catch. He is one of Virginia’s top playmakers, and with Matthew Outten having committed as a four-star wide receiver, Pry is assembling a great class for 2025. How the Hokies use their

Micah Matthews will have a talented quarterback class, including DeSoto, Texas’ Kelden Ryan and South Carolina’s AJ Brand. Pry is quietly constructing a very good class in the Class of 2025, and what’s even more impressive is that he’s doing so with a large number of in-state recruits.
