Bleacher report: Kansas City Chiefs all smile as they announce to re-sign top star

Kansas City Chiefs will re-sign wide receiver Mecole Hardman.
June 6 (UPI) — The Chiefs have agreed to re-sign wide receiver Mecole Hardman to a one-year contract.

On Thursday, sources confirmed the deal to NFL Network, ESPN, and The Athletic. The Chiefs selected Hardman in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft after he spent part of last season with the New York Jets.
Hardman signed a one-year contract with the Jets last offseason. He returned to the Chiefs in an October trade and caught the game-winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl LVIII.

Last season, the sixth-year pass catcher had a career-low 15 catches for 124 yards in 11 outings. Hardman caught five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in the postseason.

Hardman, 26, won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs in his rookie season. He earned his second title with the franchise in 2023. A month later, Hardman joined the Jets in free agency.

During his first five seasons, Hardman also punted and returned kicks. He earned the Pro Bowl in 2019 after averaging 26.1 yards per kick return, including a 104-yard run back for a touchdown. In 2021, he averaged 12.1 yards per punt return, a career high.

Hardman had 166 catches for 2,212 yards and 18 offensive touchdowns in his first 68 NFL games. Over the same period of time, he had 616 punt return yards and a touchdown, as well as 941 kick return yards and a touchdown.

He will join a Chiefs wide receivers group that includes Rashee Rice, off-season signing Marquise Brown, and Xavier Worthy, the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs will have a mandatory minicamp from Tuesday until June 13 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
