Sad News: Family vacation turn into a tragedy as father grieves son who dies in Rod Run car crash

A man who was attending the Rod Run car festival on Friday passed away, turning what was meant to be a family vacation into a tragedy.

“Every year, we travel here for the Rod Run. We visit this place three times a year, spending a week here each time. Jeremy Hanes, the boy’s father, stated, “This was my son’s first time actually attending it with me.”

A shared passion for automobiles brought Jeremy Hanes and his son Kyle Hanes, 31, closer.

“He was my ace, my number one, he was like me made over. We own a car lot in Indiana. He loved cars,” Jeremy Hanes remarked.

Jeremy Hanes claims that on Thursday night, as he and his kid were riding scooters, police officers requested them to get off the sidewalk and onto the road. They later parted ways.

“I found out on my own, walking down the street and seeing the scooter there and his hat lying on the ground. It was brought to my attention five minutes after my son left me that night that this happened – that he was in an accident,” Jeremy Hanes stated.

The Pigeon Forge Police Department said on Saturday that when a guy was traveling between the sidewalk and the road, he lost control of his scooter and drove into a car door that someone had opened at a red light. The next day, he passed away in the hospital.

“He was extremely happy and couldn’t wait to join me at this Rod Run,” Jeremy Hanes said. “And now it’s finished.”

Jeremy Hanes needs an explanation now.

“Why has no one contacted me to let me know anything, why has nobody said anything to me? No one can answer me.” He enquired. “My son is not coming back; he is gone.”

Additionally, he seeks justice for his son.

“Someone is going to pay for this; somebody is at fault here.”

Knowing that his son was over a year sober before he passed away, according to Hanes, is one thing that gives him comfort.
