Announcement: Mark Pope all smiles as Five-star guard makes decision to join Kentucky
An end has come to the recruitment of five-star guard Jasper Johnson, a native of Lexington (Ky.)
The 6-foot-4 guard playing for Atlanta (Ga.) Overtime Elite ranks as the No. 12 overall recruit in the 2025 class and is now only considering Kentucky a source told 247Sports.
Throughout the course of his high school career, Johnson has received more than two dozen offers becoming one of the top prospects in the country due to his blend of size, length and shot-making on the perimeter.
While at Peach Jam, Johnson spoke with 247Sports on four of his finalists (Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky and North Carolina)
Kentucky: “Mark Pope gives me the good message of being the hometown kid. He is consistent with me. He tells me what he wants me do and how I can fit his offense. He really wants to coach me and he wants to start his 2025 recruiting class with me. I met the staff and got to see them practice, so it was good. He likes to take 3s in the offense and he wants me to come in and score the ball.”
Southpaw scoring guard Jasper Johnson can make extremely difficult shots in short bursts when he’s heated. Beyond the jumpers and step-backs he can make from the perimeter, he has a really soft natural touch and is highly skilled near the lane with a deep bag of runners, floaters, and other types of finishes. Johnson has a wingspan of +5, which is quite long for someone his size. He needs to strengthen his physique, but he also needs to learn how to have a greater impact on the game when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands—that is, when he isn’t going on a scoring binge.
