‘I’m not going to bulls*** you’: Dale Earnhardt Jr. unapologetically insults Indy racetrack and its legacy

One of the few people who was content with how the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis ended was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt gave an explanation of why he was relieved to see Kyle Larson win in double-overtime on the Dale Jr. Download podcast.

I’m not saying that’s how things should have happened. Not that I’m saying it. Fantastic if they toss the yellow. Fine, they didn’t toss in the yellow. Earnhardt remarked, “I had enough of that race, so I didn’t care.” “I think winning there is amazing, and it’s a really great accomplishment to have on your resume. Indianapolis is truly incredible.” However, there’s something about the race product that doesn’t quite meet my needs. I wasn’t sitting here thinking, “Man, damn it,” though. I was defrauded. I simply said, “Whatever.” It’s finished.

“Now if we go to another track where I really love the racing product, of course, I want more racing. I don’t know how else to say it, and it’s flawed. My opinion is flawed. It’s just my opinion. I’m not going to hide, I’m not going to run, I’m not going to bulls*** you. My opinion is likely flawed and inconsistent. Fine, but I will agree if that’s a yellow on Lap 2, which it is probably before the leader gets through Turn 4, it’s a yellow every time.

Earnhardt added that Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a lot of “history” due to “what it went through during the Second World War” and is “an insanely cool racetrack.” Earnhardt did, however, add that Indianapolis is “not a great racetrack for stock cars.”

It’s a one-groove track, Earnhardt continued. “I don’t know how else to say it because I don’t want to insult the racetrack or anything about its legacy.” Since the track has 90-degree turns and the bottom groove is the optimum place to navigate them, there will never be an outside groove there. The track’s status, the location, and the event itself will always be the main factors. I may have found more excitement elsewhere, but I’m not as excited about the racing product itself.

Sunday marked the return of the Brickyard 400, which had been absent for the previous three years. Although the circuit was built in 1909, NASCAR has hosted the Brickyard 400 there every year since 1994.In addition to being the first Brickyard 400 winner, Jeff Gordon has five victories overall.Kevin Harvick has won three Brickyard 400 titles, while Jimmie Johnson has won the race four times.
