Chase Elliott’s NASCAR spotter suspended following arrest
The spotter for reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott was suspended indefinitely on Wednesday by the series and his team, Hendrick Motorsports.
Eddie D’Hondt, Elliott’s spotter, was arrested on May 12 in Catawba County, North Carolina, after being handed a warrant and charged with two misdemeanours: battery of an unborn child and assault of a female.

It is unknown at this moment if the cases related to D’Hondt’s first arrest, 62, are still active.
NASCAR authorities stated that D’Hondt is accused of violating provisions of the regulation by failing to notify his arrest on a felony charge within 72 hours, and he has thus been suspended.

Hendrick Motorsports took similar measures, issuing the following statement on Wednesday morning: “We became aware of the situation this morning and have immediately and indefinitely suspended Mr D’Hondt’s role with our company.”

“We are taking this matter very seriously and will continue to seek additional information about the alleged incident.”

HMS stated that a replacement spotter for Elliott for this weekend’s NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway has yet to be determined.

He is sixth in the standings after 14 races, having won at the Circuit of the Americas last weekend and finishing third on three other occasions.

D’Hondt also works as a spotter in NASCAR’s Xfinity and Trucks series.

Before working with Elliott, he was a spotter for several other drivers, including former champions Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch.

He began his NASCAR career in 1981, running Street Stocks, and has since risen to a variety of responsibilities, including team management and ownership.

D’Hondt paired up with Bill and Bob Riley to form Riley-D’Hondt Motorsports in 2007, however the team only competed in one Cup race that year, and the collaboration was short lived.
