Sad news: Duke power forward his no more

Duke’s TJ Power, a former 5-star recruit, has entered the transfer portal after his freshman season.
Power revealed on Thursday that he will register his name into the transfer portal, despite the fact that “Duke will always have a place in my heart.”
The forward was a 5-star prospect and the No. 20 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Power entered at Duke with great hopes due to his recruiting ranking, but he was more of a backup player in the rotation.

In his one season with the Blue Devils, he averaged 2.1 points and 0.7 rebounds while shooting 33.3 percent from the field in 7.0 minutes per game. He did not score in double figures in any of the team’s games, although he did shoot a three-pointer in the NCAA tournament victory over James Madison.

Power joins a lengthy list of Duke athletes who have used the transfer portal this offseason.

According to Rodrigo Amare of The Chronicle, Jeremy Roach, Jaylen Blakes, Mark Mitchell, Jaden Schutt, and Christian Reeves have all entered the portal since the Blue Devils lost to North Carolina State in the Elite Eight.

In addition, Kyle Filipowski and Jared McCain entered the NBA draft, so head coach Jon Scheyer’s club will appear

That squad will be primarily reliant on freshmen, as Scheyer is bringing in the top-ranked class in the country for the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Cooper Flagg, the top prospect in the country, leads that bunch of incoming freshmen and will undoubtedly be a go-to option.

As for Power, he could want to move somewhere where he can get more playing time and be a greater factor after being virtually overlooked as a freshman at Duke.
