Announcement: Eagles Closing In On Deal To Sign Ex Bills Pro Bowler According To Reports
The Philadelphia Eagles have proven that they are not scared to take a risk or try to improve this team how they see fit. General manager Howie Roseman & Co. are willing to lay it on the line to get back to the Super Bowl.
They traded for Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson last week, and reports are that they are interested in former Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones who was released by the Buffalo Bills on Monday.
Jones is entering his ninth year in the league. He played his first seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He finished his rookie season in the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, finishing third. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in his second season.
An injury derailed his third year, but came back to post 100+ tackles in three straight seasons before signing in Cleveland in 2022. He played in just 11 games that season and recorded a career low 44 tackles.
Last season, he signed with the Carolina Panthers. He played in 13 games and set a new career low with just 35 tackles. Carolina released him following the season.
The Buffalo Bills took a flier and signed him, but released him on Monday.
The Eagles are always looking to improve a defense that struggled a season ago. Jones has had 100+ tackles in five of his eight NFL seasons. While things didn’t work out in Cleveland or Carolina, the Eagles could use his veteran leadership on the defense, and Jones could use a fresh start.
