Youssef Ramadan, an NCAA champion, will return to Virginia Tech for his fifth year in 2023. Youssef Ramadan, the NCAA Champion, has stated that he will return to Virginia Tech for his COVID-19 fifth year.
Ramadan came from Egypt as a freshman and had an immediate influence on the Hokies. He won the ACC 100 fly title in 2021 and qualified for the 2021 NCAAs. He did not swim the 100 fly at the 2021 NCAAs, but he advanced to the ‘A’ final in the 50 free, finishing eighth. He was also 10th in the 100 free, scoring 18 individual points as Virginia Tech finished 11th overall.
As a sophomore, he won ACC championships in the 100 free and 100 fly. He went on to make two NCAA ‘A’ finals, placing third in the 100 fly and seventh in the 50 free. He earned 33.5 individual points while Virginia Tech finished 11th as a team.
He won his first individual NCAA title as a junior, swimming 43.15 in the 100 fly. He also finished fifth in the 50 free (18.82) and eighth in the 100 free (41.61). His 45 individual points guided the squad to ninth place.
This season, he returned to the ‘A’ final in the 100 fly and finished fourth with a 43.95. He also finished ninth in the 100 free and eleventh in the 50 free, for a total of 32 individual points. He guided Virginia Tech to a ninth-place finish once again.
His comeback is important because he was a member of four relays for the squad at the 2024 NCAAs, all of which scored and three finished in the top eight. The team had only two other individual scorers: Carles Coll Marti and AJ Pouch. Pouch has graduated after completing his fifth year this past season.
