Announcement: Dragons closing in on deal to sign outside back according to reports
He is off-contract at the end of the year.
The St George Illawarra Dragons reportedly closing in on contract talks with young outside back Max Feagai.
The youthful winger and center, who was born in New Zealand, has played in ten first-grade games so far this season, bringing his total number of NRL games played to 21.
Feagai, a remarkable reserve grader who came through the Dragons’ system, has been a nearly constant member of the team since Round 13, when he replaced Jack Bird and Moses Suli on the sidelines as the Dragons took on the Penrith Panthers.
At one point, it was thought that Max would probably resign concurrently with his brother Matthew Feagai, who signed a contract committing him to the joint venture through at least the end of the 2026 NRL season.
However, according to News Corp, Max and the Dragons are still in talks about his long-term future, and a deal might be struck in the upcoming weeks.
With only a few roster places remaining, the Dragons are reportedly planning to use one of them, at the absolute least, for a prop. The team is pursuing Corey Horsburgh, Daniel Saifiti, and Reagan Campbell-Gillard after previously failing to sign Stefano Utoikamanu and Addin Fonua-Blake.
With Tom Eisenhuth, Jesse Marscke, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Alec Tuitavake, and other players off-contract at the club, it is thought that there is still opportunity for the second Feagai sibling to be re-signed.
Of that group, Eisenhuth is expected to step down, Murdoch-Masila is probably going to depart, and the future of the other two is uncertain.
The Wests Tigers are said to be the team most likely to get the services of Valentine Holmes, who the Dragons previously signed to bolster their defense in 2025. However, Jack Bird has sought a release, so it looks likely that the Dragons will lose him.
