Announcement: Wide Receiver Ditches Packers To Sign With Chicago Bears

A group of players cut on Tuesday has returned to the Bears practice squad along with a former Green Bay Packers receiver.

The Bears are bringing someone with insight into the Green Bay Packers operation onto their practice squad.

Wide receiver Samori Toure is signing on with the Bears practice squad, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Toure played special teams in 22 games during his two years with Green Bay, recording 13 receptions. Eight catches totaling 78 yards occurred the previous year. His career total of TD catches is 82 yards. He caught three passes for twenty-five yards against the Bears.

The signing coincides with players returning to the practice squad following their time in training camp with the Bears.

Austin Reed, the quarterback, and a few other guys who were on the roster prior to cuts are back for the practice squad. In the preseason, Reed completed 12 of 16 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, good for a passer rating of 117.4. Veteran Brett Rypien, who led the NFL in preseason passer rating among quarterbacks with at least 30 pass attempts, was not retained.

Coach Matt Eberflus of the Bears responded, “We just like the way he operated,” when questioned about bringing back Reed. “Very intelligent. In the games, he did well. was excellent in providing assistance and participating in the quarterback room. We believe he has a promising future.”

Among the guys who signed with the Bears practice squad were defensive back Reddy Steward and tight end Brenden Bates. Pro Football Focus gave Bates the highest preseason grade of any tight end, and Steward ended the preseason against Kansas City with two interceptions.

In addition, linebacker Micah Baskerville, guard Theo Benedet, defensive tackle Byron Cowart, tight end Stephen Carlson, safety Quindell Johnson, wide receiver Collin Johnson, linebacker Carl Jones, defensive lineman Dashaun Mallory, defensive lineman Jamree Kromah, safety Tarvarius Moore, and cornerback Ro Torrence were all added back to the practice squad.

Eberflus also verified that Khari Blasingame, a fullback, has returned to the team.
