Announcement: Ayr United announce latest signing of summer transfer window as he links up with former captain

After a productive loan at Kelty Hearts, the youthful Dons player will play his entire season at Somerset Park in the Championship, where he hopes to continue his goal-scoring ways.

Alfie Bavidge, an Aberdeen youth, has signed a season-long loan with Ayr United, where he will play alongside former captain Scott Brown at Somerset Park.

The Dons young player, who had a great loan stint with Kelty Hearts the previous season, will also be hoping to capture Jimmy Thelin’s attention with his former teammate.

Bavidge was sold on the transfer to Ayrshire as he hopes to advance in the Championship. He wants to step up in class and continue to chase goals. As a teenager, he was impressed by his new management.

“I know it’s going to be tough, but the team is flying and the two lads up front are doing really well,” he said to the Ayrshire Post. However, maybe I can offer the manager an alternative and introduce something fresh.”

“I’ve never seen a better work ethic and attitude than he had at Aberdeen. Even though I was only 15 at the time, I learned a lot just by being around someone like him.

“He would consistently attend the under-18 team’s home games and show a genuine interest in the proceedings. I made an extremely simple decision once I realized he wanted me here.”

In 24 starts for Kelty last season, Bavidge scored nine goals, and his reputation among the Dons’ setup has grown.

He said: “I enjoyed last season and scored a fair number of goals, especially playing off the sides like I did at Kelty.
This will be the first time I’ve been away from home but I understand the sacrifices you need to make if you’re to be successful.

“I spoke to the manager at Aberdeen about the move and he was very positive about it and sees this as a good chance at a club going well. He wants me to come here and see what impact I can make. Ayr are a big club at a good level and the chance to come and play for the manager is a big draw.”
