Virginia Tech enters as the heavy favorite versus Marshall.
For the second week in a row, the Virginia Tech football team is a double-digit favorite over a non-conference opponent.
Months ago, the Virginia Tech football team was a massive favorite against Week 1 opponent Vanderbilt. At the time, it was a fitting phrase given the Hokies’ high retention rate and the Commodores’ enormous roster churn. A 13.5-point line seems about appropriate.

As the spring and summer progressed, all signals pointed to a Virginia Tech victory; whether or not they covered was another issue. On ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday, everyone on the panel, save Lee Corso, predicted the Hokies to win outright. Ultimately, he was correct.

In a surprise to many outside of the Vanderbilt program and fan base, the Commodores established a 17-3 halftime lead with a near-perfect first half of offense, controlling the clock and keeping Virginia Tech’s offense off the field. After losing a second-half lead and falling down, Vandy tied the game late and triumphed in overtime to win outright and cover. Now the Hokies return home and begin as a double-digit favorite this Saturday.

Oh my, here we go again. Following the defeat to Vanderbilt, the Hokies’ players and coaches will have a tough week as they prepare for Marshall, and DraftKings has Virginia Tech as a 16.5-point favorite against the Thundering Herd on Sunday.

Marshall will travel to Blacksburg after defeating Stony Brook 45-3 on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Hokies will be trying for revenge after falling 24-17 to Marshall last year, who will be looking for their second consecutive upset over Tech.

In the end, you have to assume, and hope, that Virginia Tech can rebound and win, and who knows, maybe even cover, but if there is one thing we learned in Week 1, it’s that the game
