Fans Take Action: Florida State Football Ignores Fans, Gets Rid of Important FSU Tradition

Florida State’s decision to abandon a long-held Seminole tradition has resulted in a loss of two games and a decrease in fan support.

This week, Jackson Bakich of NoleGameday wrote on the end of the War cry, a cry led by the Florida State marching band during defensive third downs. FSU’s band has supposedly been instructed not to perform it.

“According to an alumni member of the Marching Chiefs who wishes to remain anonymous, the band has been instructed to not play the War Chant on third downs while the Seminoles are on defense during home games,” Bakich stated in his letter.

“Instead, a DJ plays a sort of dubstep/house music style song in an attempt to fire up players while leaving the crowd puzzled,” according to him.

Bakich stated that he was told the decision came directly from the football squad.

“The alumni Chief told NoleGameday that it was the FSU athletics department that asked the Chiefs not to play the War Chant on third downs and that it be replaced with the DJ song – which was requested by the football team,” according to the post.

So the football team blatantly disregards a long-standing custom of playing their own music, and supporters are outraged. Not only are they unhappy, but they’ve already taken action. Bakich reported that over 5,000 people had signed a petition to “limit DJ music and allow more Marching Chiefs performances at FSU games.”

It has been a difficult few weeks for the Florida State football squad. They’ve lost twice in embarrassing ways to begin the year, and now their own fans are turning against the club because they opted to eliminate a tradition that the people cherished… simply so they could play generic music of their choosing.

It can’t get much worse for these guys from a public image standpoint right now.
