Martin St. Louis confirms the rumor Involving Montreal Canadiens to acquire $20 million forward in an intriguing deal ahead of tonight’s game Vs the Flyers

The Montreal Canadiens are nearing the end of their rebuild and a trade pitch has the team acquiring a star forward.

The Deal in Focus

Canadiens acquire:

  • Mikael Granlund
  • 2027 sixth-round pick

Sharks acquire:

  • 2025 second-round pick
  • 2025 third-round pick (New Jersey’s)

The deal would see Montreal acquire Granlund and a draft pick for two draft picks in a trade that does make sense for both teams.

The Canadiens would acquire Granlund who’s entering the final year of his four-year $20 million deal. Granlund is a former first-round pick who spent his first season with the Sharks last year as he recorded 12 goals and 48 assists for 60 points in 69 games.

Granlund, known for his playmaking abilities and offensive prowess, has become a key figure in trade discussions following the Sharks’ struggles this season. With a substantial contract that runs through the next few seasons, the Canadiens see Granlund as a potential game-changer who could enhance their forward depth.

St. Louis addressed the rumors in a press conference, stating, “We’re always looking to improve our team, and Mikael Granlund is a player we’ve had our eye on. His skills and experience could be a great addition to our lineup.”

Why Granlund Makes Sense for the Canadiens

Granlund could be Montreal’s third-line center and also add some insurance behind Kirby Dach who has struggled to stay healthy. The deal also doesn’t cost Montreal much, and if the Canadiens aren’t competing for a playoff spot, the Habs likely could deal Granlund at the deadline to recoup assets.

Granlund’s versatility allows him to play multiple forward positions, providing the coaching staff with flexibility in line combinations. His experience in high-pressure situations, including playoff runs with previous teams, would also bring valuable leadership to a relatively young Canadiens roster.

Canadiens Coach Expects More From his Team

Martin St. Louis is back as the coach of the Canadiens, as Montreal extended his contract for three more seasons.

Although the Canadiens failed to make the playoffs last season, St. Louis says the expectations are much higher this season. He knows the roster is hard to make and

“People are all (asking), am I going to be tougher this year? For me, I feel my players know that I always tell them my truth, and my truth this year compared to last year might be slightly different because we’re further along. So, to me, I try to be fair in what I expect of them,” St. Louis said on September 18.

“Do I expect more of them this year than last year? Absolutely. That’s for the team, but there’s also the individual. The expectation on everybody’s a little bit different (because) they’re at different stages of their career. But (as for) the non-negotiables, that’s across the line,” St. Louis added.

However, others are cautious, considering the financial implications of taking on Granlund’s significant contract. Some fans are concerned about how it might affect the team’s long-term cap space, with one commenting, “I love Granlund’s game, but can we afford to take on that salary? We need to think about the future too.”

Montreal Canadiens announce lineup for their first pre-season game against the Philadelphia Flyers

The Montreal Canadiens announced the lineup for their first pre-season game against the Philadelphia Flyers, confirming Patrik Laine’s and Kirby Dach’s fate.

After a very long summer filled with great acquisitions in Montreal, the Habs are finally gearing up for their first pre-season game of the year.

President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton and General Manager Kent Hughes did a great job filling the prospect pool, giving good reasons for fans to attend the game at the Bell Centre, even in the pre-season. They also managed to acquire Patrik Laine, who’s looking to bounce back from a tough journey with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Reporter Eric Engels confirmed that Laine will be playing tonight in a post revealing Martin St. Louis’ full lineup.

Check it out:

‘Newhook-Dach-Laine

In addition to Laine’s debut, tonight’s game will be marked by Kirby Dach’s return, who suffered a season-ending injury in the second game of the last campaign. Last year, Dach was one of the most exciting players to watch during the pre-season. If he hadn’t been injured, the team probably would have won a lot more games. As for Laine, he’s an elite player, and if he manages to find his rhythm, he could lead the Habs to their breakout season.

But let’s get back to tonight’s clash. Interesting prospects Joshua Roy, Oliver Kapanen, and Luke Tuch will face the Flyers tonight. While Roy already played 23 games with the Canadiens last year, his season ended quickly after an injury forced him to miss the last month of action. In that time, he showed a lot of potential, managing to score nine points, including four goals in his first NHL stint.

On the blue line, the Habs decided they wouldn’t make things easy for the Flyers by sending Lane Hutson alongside veteran David Savard, their top enforcer Arber Xhekaj, as well as pairing the two top contenders Adam Engstrom and Logan Mailloux.

It’s safe to say that a big challenge awaits the Flyers in Montreal. The Canadiens’ coaching staff did a great job combining veterans and prospects to create a dangerous yet balanced lineup.

John Tortorella and his team were in Washington yesterday to face the Capitals and won 6-2. However, they won’t have the same lineup. Torts decided to remove Matvei Michkov, who scored his first NHL points last night, and added many players from Quebec, such as Sean Couturier, Nicolas Deslauriers, Caleb Desnoyers, Anthony Richard, and Jacob Gaucher. Former Canadien Ryan Poehling and top prospect Oliver Bonk will also be on the ice.

This is an exciting matchup to start the pre-season in Montreal, but hype is already through the roof for the official home opener on October 9th against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While we wait for that promising game, we still have a few pre-season clashes to go through. It starts tonight, but the other half of the team should be in action tomorrow, as they host the New Jersey Devils.
