‘Makes Too Much Sense’: Cardinals Closing In On Deal With Dodgers For $260 Million Star

St. Louis will have a tough decision to make and could let a star go

There may be more than one on the way out of town.

St. Louis has quality players, but may lose some this winter. The first domino to fall will very definitely be first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. He will become a free agent and is not likely to return to St. Louis.

The Cardinals have some high-priced veterans on their roster who might be traded afterward. Third baseman Nolan Arenado has already been mentioned several times as speculation over the team’s future has increased.

St. Louis has stated that it will use the 2025 season to “reset” the organization, and if Arenado is ready to waive his no-trade clause, he might be traded.

According to FanSided’s Josh Jacobs, Arenado has the greatest trade value among Cardinals players and would be “shocked” if traded to anyone other than the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“If Arenado green-lights a trade, I’d be shocked if it is to anywhere other than Los Angeles, unless the Dodgers do not want him,” Jacobs told ESPN. “Then perhaps he would consider other organizations, but I believe Arenado joining the Dodgers makes too much sense at this time.

“The Cardinals may have to pay a down payment on Arenado’s contract, and even if they do, they are unlikely to receive anything in return unless they provide a significant amount of money. If the Dodgers know they are not competing with anyone else and are likely doing the Cardinals a favor by obtaining him, they can practically give up nothing to get this done.”

Los Angeles has previously been linked to Arenado, so it would not be surprising if it enters the sweepstakes for him. Changes are on their way.
