Sad News: Raiders fear the worst as they get dealt another unfortunate injury blow as key star is going to be sidelined for..
Due to an injury, one of the greatest offseason additions for the Las Vegas Raiders will now miss time.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that defensive tackle Christian Wilkins will be out indefinitely following surgery to address a Jones Fracture he sustained on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
Wilkins will miss at least four games after the Raiders placed him on injured reserve, according to Rapoport.
Wilkins played his first five seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins before signing a four-year, $110 million contract with the Raiders this offseason, which includes $84.75 million guaranteed.
A year ago, he had the best season of his career, recording 65 tackles and a career-high nine sacks (2023), which ranked him fourth in the league among defensive tackles. Wilkins has racked up 17 tackles and two sacks in five games this season.
This season, Wilkins’ injury is the second major setback for a vital defensive lineman. Fortunately for Las Vegas, star defensive end Maxx Crosby’s high-ankle sprain against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 kept him out of action for just one game, as he returned to action on Sunday.
The Raiders will probably assign Adam Butler to right defensive tackle in Wilkins’ absence. Butler, a seven-year veteran, has had a solid year playing behind Wilkins as he’s picked up 17 tackles and three tackles for loss this year. He just finished a season in which he tallied five sacks and 28 tackles.
After falling to Denver on Sunday, the Raiders are now 2-3 on the season. This week, they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in an attempt to avoid dropping two straight games.
