Saints to sign former Chiefs linebacker Willie
Here’s the first New Orleans Saints free agency signing of 2024. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Saints have agreed to a one-year contract with former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay. Gay’s arrival provides an instant replacement for Zack Baun, who agreed to a deal with the Eagles.
NewOrleans.According to football analyst Nick Underhill, Gay’s deal is worth up to $5 million if he receives all of his performance bonuses and incentives. Gay, a former second-round choice in the 2020 NFL draft from Mississippi State, is 6-foot-2 and weighs 243 pounds. He just won his second Super Bowl with Kansas City. He played 62% of their defensive snaps last season.
The Saints have showed a fondness for former Chiefs defenders in recent years. Over the previous several cycles, they’ve signed free agents from Kansas City, including safety Tyrann Mathieu, defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon, nose tackle Khalen Saunders, and defensive back Ugo Amadi. Hopefully, Gay can have a similar influence on Dennis Allen’s defense.
