The Buffalo Bills agree to trade receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.
Orchard Park, New York. The Buffalo Bills agreed to trade Stefon Diggs, their best receiving threat, to the Houston Texans on Wednesday.
The Bills announced the transaction, acquiring the Texans’ second-round pick in the 2025 draft, which Houston obtained in a trade with Minnesota. Houston also received Buffalo’s sixth-round draft pick this year, as well as a fifth-round pick in 2025.
Diggs’ departure from Buffalo leaves quarterback Josh Allen without his favorite target, breaking up a duo that has rewritten the team’s passing records since the receiver was acquired in a March 2020 deal with Minnesota. Together, they developed the Bills’ offensive into one of the NFL’s most powerful.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane declined to go into detail about the reasoning for the move, saying it was a difficult choice made after consulting with team owner Terry Pegula. He agreed that the deal does not improve the Bills now, but it does give future benefits by removing Diggs’ contract from the team’s payroll after this season.
“The Bills have not given up or are taking a step back,” Beane said, appreciating Diggs for everything he gave to Buffalo. “We want to win at all we do. And we will continue to do so. It’s April 3rd or 4th, whatever, and we’ll continue to work on this roster.
Beane’s most frequently used comment was that this was “the best decision for the Bills moving forward.”
Diggs adds another playmaker to the Texans’ offense, joining Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Last season, Collins led Houston with 80 catches, 1,297 yards, and eight touchdowns. The Texans improved from last to first in the AFC South behind first-year coach DeMeco Ryans and AP Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.
Houston has also traded for running back Joe Mixon, as well as made some defensive changes.
Following the agreement, the Texans were 15-1 to win the Super Bowl next season on FanDuel Sportsbook.
After nine seasons in the NFL, the 30-year-old Diggs became the first player to lead the league in receiving yards (1,535) and catches (127) in his first season with the Buffalo Bills. However, his production declined in the second half of the previous season, which coincided with the team’s firing of offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and promotion of Joe Brady, who emphasized the running attack once again. Diggs finished the season with eight touchdowns, 107 receptions, and 1,183 yards, both lows during his time with the Bills.
