Oregon State Transfer Jordan Pope Commits to the Texas Longhorns.
The Texas Longhorns have added a key ingredient to their 2024 basketball roster.
The Texas Longhorns once again defeated the Texas A&M Aggies.
According to an announcement on his X account, Texas received a commitment from Oregon State transfer guard Jordan Pope on Wednesday, beating Texas A&M in the race for the former Beaver. Last week, the Pope visited both programs.
Pope, from Oakley, California, has spent the last two seasons at Oregon State. In his college career, he started 63 of 64 games and averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 34.6 minutes per game.
Though the Beavers have struggled the last two seasons, he has had some standout performances and moments. This season, he nailed a game-winning fadeaway triple at the buzzer to beat then-No. 9 Arizona 83-80 in January. Pope scored 30 points in the win and only missed double digits once all season.
Texas signed Indiana State transfers Jayson Kent and Julian Larry, as well as Arkansas transfer and former Houston Cougar Tramon Mark, who committed unexpectedly.
Adding Mark and Larry to the backcourt did not appear to have any negative impact on Pope and Texas’ strong mutual interest, which has now been reinforced by his commitment.
Pope has now assembled a dynamic and versatile backcourt that will include Chendall Weaver, incoming five-star freshman Tre Johnson, Mark, and Larry.
