The Dodgers are about to acquire Jazz Chisholm Jr. in a blockbuster trade proposal.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster is stacked with superstars at multiple positions.
According to Bleacher Report, a proposed trade would add Miami Marlins centerfielder Jazz Chisolm Jr. to the Dodgers’ roster.
“If the Dodgers want to leave nothing to chance, they should be interested in Chisholm. And, anyway, the whole ethos of this franchise is that there’s no such thing as too much star power,” Zachary D. Rymer wrote in a May 8 column about potential destinations for Chisolm if the Marlins continue to trade away their top players.
Chisolm, an All-Star in 2022, can play centerfield and second base when healthy. However, Chisholm’s health has been a worry, since he has played in “only 59 percent of Miami’s games between 2021 and 2023,” according to Rymer.
Chisholm took Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto deep on the first pitch of LA’s 8-2 victory on May 7.
Dodgers would send top prospect for Chisholm in the proposal.
The Dodgers are now platooning James Outman with Andy Pages in center field. Chisholm might succeed Gavin Lux, who is struggling at the plate. According to Rymer’s proposal, the Dodgers would trade catcher Dalton Rushing, the team’s top prospect, and left-handed pitcher Maddux Bruns, the No. 14 prospect, to the Marlins in exchange for Chisholm.
Rushing might be a good trade piece for the Dodgers, considering Smith plays behind the plate. He is the team’s top prospect and MLB Pipeline’s number 71 prospect. In March, the Dodgers extended Smith’s contract for ten years and $140 million. Rushing’s route to the big leagues is now barred by Smith’s long-term contract.
“The Marlins have struggled at catcher since trading JT Realmuto in 2019. Hence the appeal of adding Rushing, who is already blocked by Will Smith in Los Angeles,” noted Rymer.
Rushing is hitting.290 with a.963 OPS in Double-A Tulsa this season.
With the development of Pages, the Dodgers are expected to use Chisholm at second. Lux is hitting just.191 on the year and has one home run.
